Step 1: The Photo(s)
One of the biggest things we consider is the quality of the photos in a submission. As a highly visual magazine, we need our photos to pop and be as clear as possible. Unfortunately, we have had to turn down artists because of a low-quality or blurry/grainy photo.
What we look for: jpeg or png file
What we turn down: Screenshots, photos of photos, social media posts, etc.
Not only do we look at the type of image file, but we look at how busy your photo is. A submission photo should be fairly clear of clutter! For example, taking a picture of your painting? Make sure the floor is clear of your laundry (we've all done it, don't worry!). Instead lean/hang your painting on a blank wall, or find a cute way to decorate your space so that your work shines through.
We suggest including 1-4 images in your submission email. That said, we would love if you sent even more! Only looking to submit one piece of art? Send in different angles; zoom in, zoom out, and don't be afraid to get creative when photographing your art! The more photos you send our way, the more opportunities you have to be successful. That being said, try to send only one email submission per issue and make sure to include all of your photos in one place. That leads into the HOW of the photo submission.
HOW TO BEST SEND YOUR PHOTO(S):
We suggest that if you are sending multiple photos, you include the photos in a google photos link!
Step 2: The Creative Contract
WHAT IS IT?
The creative contract is a contract between the magazine and the creative (i.e. artist/business) sending the submission. The contract lays out the guidelines for the use of the creatives work. It states that the magazine can only use the creatives work in the magazine and in posts relating to the magazine on social media. If the creatives work is used in a social media post, we make sure to tag their instagram account.
SECTIONS IN THE CONTRACT:
The Contract has 3 sections: 1) Creative Credits 2) Artist Bio and 3) The Reader's Question.
1) Creative Credits
The first section of the contract will ask for basic info, such as name, age, and location!
2) Artist Bio
The second section of the contract will ask you to share a little more about yourself! You can include when or how long you've been creating, what inspires you, and/or what you enjoy creating.
3) The Reader's Question
The third and last section of the contract is the reader's question. It is a question or prompt that coincides with the theme of the chosen issue, so it will change each issue!
Step 3: Hit Send!
After you have gathered your photos, downloaded and filled out the creative contract- it's time to submit! Double check your submission and then send it our way!
WHERE DO I SUBMIT?
We only accept submissions sent to our email, firstname.lastname@example.org
We do not accept submissions through instagram, fb messages or any other means.
